Cornerstone Youth Ministries

CYM is a 501©3 organization located in Holland, MI. The word Cornerstone derives from Latin and sometimes is referred to as a “foundation-stone,” and is symbolic of Christ, whom the Apostle Paul referred to as the “head of the corner” and is the “Chief Cornerstone of the Church” (Ephesians 2:20). Still located in its original building, for over 35 years, CYM has served as a foundation-stone for families within the community and the greater Holland, MI. CYM has created a safe, Christ-centered environment that helps youth develop a sense of purpose, boost self-esteem, build skills for success, and be empowered to choose to live a healthy Christ-centered lifestyle.

The CYM center is a drop-in youth center with a complete after school and summer program for youth from 5 – 19 years old. Programming consists of supervised indoor (i.e., games) and outdoor (i.e., basketball) recreation, educational support (i.e., homework assistance), and teachings from the Word of God. CYM has one paid staff member, the Director Pastor Steve Turrell, and relies heavily on community volunteers. In the summer, in addition to its regular programming, CYM partners with other community organizations and local officials to provide events such as block parties, concerts, and sporting events. Additionally, the center will offer workshops, meetings, and classes for youth to gain new skills.

The CYM provides much needed safe space for youth during the crucial time between getting out of school and their parents coming home from work. While the CYM primarily focuses on youth, it also provides activities (i.e., outdoor recreation) and social services (i.e., homeless services) for all ages.
